M83 - Kim & Jessie

Have you ever wished that you were really talented at an unusual sport?

I once wanted to be a roller dancer.

And M83's video for Kim & Jessie makes me want it all over again. The velvet costumes... the leg warmers... and those amazing skates...!

Snoop does Bollywood & Country

Collaborations can be powerful.

Snoop Dogg, the multi-platinum Hip Hop and Rap artist, and self-proclaimed "Doggfather", is branching out into new genres of music with upcoming collaborations.

Snoop told MTV that he has "made so many records that were true to hip-hop, true to Snoop Dogg and true to the West Coast and gangsta rap in genre. Now it's time for me to make records that feel good to me and [to] venture out."

First up, is his foray into Bollywood, with his appearance on the theme song to the hit Indian film 'Singh Is Kinng'. It's a great fusion of Bollywood and Hip Hop. The film is set to open in August, and the music video should be out in the next few days.

Check out Akshay Kumar performing to the track at the International Indian Film Academy Awards in June.

So, Snoop's got Hip Hop covered, he's done Pop with Justin Timberlake (remember 'Signs'?), he's done Bollywood... now for his second attempt at Country, with the Johnny Cash Remix album.

Following Snoop's collaboration with Willie Nelson on 'My Medicine' (see mp3 link below), Snoop has put together his own remix of Cash's 'Walk The Line' for the album, which is due for release on October 14.

Pitchfork draws similarities between the two genres:
Country and rap have a lot in common: Both genres are dominated by outsized personalities often talking about getting/having/losing material possessions, and outlaws tend to thrive in both arenas.

For non-Snoop fans, the Johnny Cash Remix album also includes a Midnight Juggernaughts reworking of 'Port of Lonely Hearts'.

Justice does [more] fashion

Justice loves fashion.

The Ed Banger duo collaborated with Surface To Air recently to launch their own range of limited edition leather jackets.

It has been a little while since we heard new tunes from Justice. You'd think that they had gone the way of M.I.A and taken a break from music while they concentrate on clothing...

But they are back, with a new mix (which is really more of a 15 minute track) which was completed for the Dior Homme Spring/Summer 09 Paris show.

Daft Punk did the same last year for Louis Vuitton. Available for download here

And if you want to have a listen to what Justice have come up with, click here (zshare) or (asianmandan).

Tim Burton casts Alice

Lindsay Lohan as Alice in Wonderland??

Thankfully that was just a dirty rumour.

It turns out that Tim Burton found his Alice not in LA nor down the rabbit hole, but Down Under.

Mia Wasikowska began her career with a part in the Aussie tv series 'All Saints', and is now in negotiations with Tim Burton for the part.

On the film's IMDB entry, Mia is the only cast member announced... but I wonder if Tim Burton will find a place for Johnny Depp in the production?!

Snow in Sydney ?

All of my friends in the northern hemisphere are currently enjoying a beautiful summer. Sunny days, bright nights, cocktails, beaches and short skirts.

Right now in Sydney it is cold... not just 'chilly', but the kind of cold where you can't get out from under the doona in the morning, where you shiver when sitting still, and icy winds cut through coats.

Sydney is supposedly sub-tropical. Which means that we get the cold weather, without any of the fun that goes along with it, like snow.

Until last weekend.

The roads in the northern suburbs yesterday were white. Kids were in their front yards building snow men. Teenagers threw balls of ice at each other.

It was beautiful.

UPDATE: News.com.au says that "it looked like snow, and it felt like snow, but in what may come as a disappointment to Sydneysiders, today's winter whiteness was just soft hail."
